New Hope’s Testing Philosophy
New Hope administers the SAT (Stanford Achievement Test) to students in the benchmark years of 5th, 8th, and 10th grades. Beginning 2015, we added 3rd grade as an additional benchmark year. The SAT offers a way to measure our students’ learning compared with national percentiles so that we have accountability and integrity in our academics. However, we do not receive any funding based on test results, so we do not need to use valuable class time teaching to a specific test. We feel that our day to day academics are sufficient to prepare our students to succeed, as the data below shows. Every year, we have a large majority of students scoring at or above the 50th percentile (average) in the core areas of Reading Comprehension, Mathematics Problem Solving, and Language Mechanics.
