January 17, 2008 CELL PHONE vs. BIBLE An excellent thought, I wonder, ...... what would happen if we treated our Bible like we treat our cell phone?
This is something to make you go....hmm...where is my
Bible?
Thanks for Bleacher Gifts: We give thanks to the Lord and thanks to you for enough money to purchase the portable bleachers. The bleachers have been ordered, and hopefully will arrive before our basketball season ends. Needed: Your help with home game concessions. Contact Marsha Grush or Sharon Garcia. Concessions and gate are important to help defray game expenses. Needed: Some newer TVs with DVD/RCA jacks on them… As you replace your TV, the school may be able to use your older one if it is new enough to include the above need. A Changing Culture Over the years, our culture, our national news media, and our schools have slipped away from having God’s Word be pivotal, or central, in thought and life. Instead, people seek to set their own fluctuating directives for thought and life apart from the directives of Scripture. Simple question, which world-view leads to stability and ultimate success? One of many examples of rapid change in our culture: This week we turned down a gift from a company that required a statement that we did not discriminate on the basis of “gender orientation”. That is also the reason we cannot receive federal money for our lunch program, or from some other funding sources. Our well published (IRS code requirement) non-discrimination statement does not include “gender orientation” as is rapidly becoming common such statements. Scripture points to a better way, a more successful way to build strong families. NHCS Non-discrimination Policy NHCS admits without discrimination, students of every race, sex, color, and national or ethnic origin, to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. NHCS reserves the right to select students on the basis of academic performance and personal qualifications, including a willingness to cooperate with the goals of New Hope Christian Schools and to abide by its policies. It is a blessing that we do not need to wrestle with some issues as the issue mentioned in last week’s Daily Courier article where the Grants Pass School Board needed to address the legislative gender orientation issue mandated for public schools. Tabled was to let the state determine how to handle such issues as use of restrooms and dressing rooms in meeting one’s professed gender identity. We must pray for our nation, a nation where school boards are forced to wrestle with issues that would not have even been thought of years ago. Pray and work for the election of officials, pray for judges that often “write” legislation, pray for our students growing up in this rapidly changing culture. Pray that we as staff, we as students, and we as parents may more and more let it be that “Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.” Psalm 119:105. |
