A Great Spring Concert

We just had a great Spring Concert.  We hope you can make next year’s annual spring concert.    I missed this concert so that my sister could realize what great music is being practiced at New Hope.  Printed below is her praise letter to our staff:

Good Morning!

After having lived in space # 10 for almost two years while caring for Terell's and my Dad, Joe Bowdoin, most of you have met me, Karen Olson.  I haven't had the chance to be at one of New Hope's musical concerts yet, so it was a nice surprise when someone sacrificed attending so I could be there Monday night for the Spring Concert.  I arrived, expecting the usual "sweet, but ho-hum and don't expect too much because of course these are only kids performing, also keeping in mind the fact that this is a very small school" type of evening.

Was I ever in for a surprise!  I am wondering how many of you are aware of what an unusually high quality of music program you have here at New Hope Christian School.  Our children have attended school in 6 school districts, including two very large private Christian schools, in three different countries, so my husband I have enjoyed many concerts of varying degrees of quality.

Because New Hope is fairly small, I was expecting something somewhere in the middle.  However, I was totally amazed at the quality of the music selected, the excellence of the performances, and the professional presentation on both the parts of the music directors as well as the students.  With the exception of an elite touring choir called "His Singers" in which one of our daughters sang, I have never heard/seen a musical concert of this high quality in any of the schools our children have attended.  Your music program and teachers are to be commended!

Thank you for a delightful and inspiring evening,
Karen Olson

The coaches and athletes of both middle school girls and boys enjoyed great times together this season.  Successes of this season breed the taste for more successes for the coming year in all of our sports.

Track Boys are Repeat Winners of the Dairy Farmers of America Award

Our boys’ basketball team won the Dairy Farmers of America award for high academics.  At the state track meet, this is very closely the same group of boys who also won that award as the #1 team academically.

Year after year, how are the academic achievements of our state championship attending athletes?  They are almost always the top scholars, and they usually make up a huge majority of our very successful Brain Bowl participants.  You will also often find them heavily involved in our music program and in youth activities of local churches.

Summer Sports at New Hope

We encourage parents to get their children involved in New Hope’s extensive summer basketball and conditioning programs.  The disciplines learned in sports are much more productive for them than wasted time with TV, electronic games, etc.

Summer basketball has already started for high school and middle school girls, and for high school boys.

First Friday Art Night

The secondary art department has the privilege to be included in the Grants Pass First Friday Art Night on Friday, June 1st. The junior high and high school art students will show their art at the Josephine County Historical Society Schmidt House Museum located at 508 SW Fifth Street. There will be a reception from 5:30-8:00pm. ALL ARTISTS, PARENTS, and NH family are encouraged to attend!

The art will be displayed during the month of June. You can visit the Schmidt House on Tuesdays through Fridays, 10am-4pm, if you can’t come on June 1st. This is a great honor for our students! Please make plans to attend and support the students who have worked so hard in art this year!

10 Elementary Students!

Last night’s gym fundraising committee decided to start advertising our gym improvement project by selling bottles of water along the parade route on Saturday, 9:00 – noon.  With the water, they will hand out cards about the school and the gym improvement goals.

Summer Tutoring Offered At New Hope Under Contract Separate from the School

For parents of struggling students:  Is your child bright, knowledgeable about many subjects, but struggling in reading and spelling?  IT COULD BE DYSLEXIA!   Dyslexia never goes away; and as harder words are used and reading becomes more frequently an individual task, students struggle more and more – and often drop out of school altogether.  Is there help?  Yes – right here at New Hope Christian School.  Maureen McCarthy is offering tutoring in reading and spelling using the Barton Reading and Spelling System.  If you are interested in tutoring for your child, please leave a message in the office or call Mrs. Mccarthy at home in the evenings – 476-6538.  Mrs. McCarthy will also tutor in math up through pre-algebra.

Needed:  Moms-In-Touch Coordinator

Jan Culton, who has faithfully led the Moms-in-Touch group for a number of years has her last child graduating this spring, so we need a replacement mother.  This new mother needs to be sold on the value of prayer for our children and teachers..

  • Previous Moms-In-Touch experience is not necessary.
  • 30 minutes of prep time is needed each week.
  • Meet one hour each week with prayer group.
