Brain Bowl—At Saturday’s Master Brain Bowl, hosted by Southern Oregon State University, the New Hope “A” team qualified for the finals to be televised on April 15th on Southern Oregon Public Television KSYS Channel 8! New Hope won each match of their bracket, beating teams from Grants Pass, Phoenix, South Medford, and Ashland. Then in the semi-finals, New Hope beat Illinois Valley by a score of 21- 3 to advance to the finals. Teams qualifying for the Master Brain Bowl finals were Ashland (2 teams), South Medford, and New Hope. Glendale, North Medford, Crater, St. Mary’s, and Cascade Christian also had participating teams. Some schools, like New Hope, had more than one team for a total of 21 teams participating.
The New Hope teams are coached by Lisa Ward and David Bowdoin. This year’s Master Brain Bowl “A” team members are seniors Ben Bowdoin, John Cunningham, and Matt Hillier; sophomores John Bayley and Jacob Bowdoin.
The consistent strengths of the New Hope teams have been in grammar, math, history, and geography.
Talent Show—Congratulations to this year’s Talent Show winners: Funniest Act was “Copper Clappers” with Ben & Jacob Bowdoin; Most Inspirational Act was “Soccer Crazy” with Kevin Payne; and Best Overall Act was “I Love Rocky Road” with Natalie Reebel, Kathy Ward, and Marsha Wilkinson. Thanks to all who participated and who came to support this annual event. $230 was raised for needed band equipment.
Re-enrollment Time—Get your re-enrollment forms turned in ASAP. Registration payment must be submitted with the re-enrollment application in order for a place to be held for your student.
Spring Pictures—Spring pictures will be taken March 15th. We need 1 volunteer parent helper (you will receive 2 free picture packages). Contact the office if you would like to help.
Yearbook Reminder—Each year, our publications class puts out a classic yearbook. Not only do they capture a quality record of life at New Hope Christian Schools, but they also raise their own money to produce their work – a helpful accomplishment. Your business ads are one source for this funding. We have received several ads and are very grateful. We had an original deadline of March 1st, but due to the craziness of the past few weeks, we are extending the deadline two more weeks. Please try to have all your ad information in by March 15th. Contact Valerie Matthews either by phone, 476-4588, or by email, valeriem@newhopechristian.net
Host Families Needed for Next Year—We need to have tentative host families lined up for next year’s International Students. We have students from Spain & Korea asking to come. Notify Alan Main if you are interested at 476-4588, ext 38.
Europe Trip Fundraising Meeting—Tuesday, March 6th, at 6:30 pm, in the NH Cafeteria. Parents, if your 9th-12th grade student has even an inkling of wanting to go on this trip, please be at this meeting. We will share ideas and map out our strategy for raising funds. |
