New Hope Christian School Cross Country coach David Bowdoin was named 2011 Coach of the Year for 3A/2A/1A District 6. This is the fifth time Mr. Bowdoin has received the honor.

When asked about the award, Mr. Bowdoin said, “God gave us a great group of kids to work with this season.” When asked about the growth of the New Hope Cross Country team Bowdoin commented, “The kids really worked extra hard this season.  They had the goal of making it to the state meet in sight all season, and they achieved that goal today.  For that, I congratulate the kids for working extra hard and thank God for the privilege and opportunity to compete in the state championships again.” Coach Bowdoin was assisted by Coach David Johnson Coach Michele Laird and Coach Josh Cunningham.

New Hope’s boys team has been the top ranked 3A/2A/1A team in the district this season. At the district meet held on Thursday, October 27, 2011, Cascade Christian edged out the Warriors by 1 point .(35 CC, 36 NH).

The Coach of the Year award is determined by vote from each of the district’s coaches prior to district team scores being released.

“David has done an outstanding job getting these young people to always do their best. At District meet from the middle schoolers to the JV and Varsity, almost all of the young people had personal best times. They seem to love to run for Coach David”, said Athletic Director Phil Stephens.

Founded in 1961, New Hope Christian was the product of a joint effort among local churches and World Missions to Children. The school has been celebrating its 50 years of service to the community all year, offering classes from Junior Kindergarten (age 4) through grade 12. The school also offers an active sports program.

The theme at New Hope this year is “What’s NEW at New Hope”. The school now offers a modified block schedule and several new electives that will cater to students and home schoolers. New Hope Christian School offers a tutoring/learning center to assist students on every level.

Athletic Director Phil Stephens invites calls to the school at (541) 476-4588 or a visit to the school’s website at www.newhopechristian.net
