Newsletter for September 20, 2012
Secondary Parent-Student Handbook:
The Parent-Student Handbook for 7th-12th grades can be found at Secondary Handbook 2012-2013. The handbook has been updated for this year. Please read it thoroughly as there have been additions, deletions, and changes.
Look for the Parent-Student Handbook for JrK-6th grades in next week’s newsletter.
See You at the Pole:
See You at the Pole will take place at 7am on Wednesday, Sept. 26th for all secondary students and staff. ”What is See You at the Pole, or SYATP? See You at the Pole is a completely student led event in which students meet at their school’s flagpole before school on the fourth Wednesday of every September to pray for your school, the students, teachers, government, and our nation. It is important to note that See You at the Pole is not a demonstration or political rally. It is not trying to make a statement for or against any particular thing, but is just a chance for students to get together to pray.” (Quote from Ask.com)
College Planning Class:
All high school parents and students are welcome to attend the College Planning Class on Tuesday, Sept. 25th, 7-8:15pm, in the NH Cafeteria. This is a free class being offered by Cori Murphy with The College Authority, LLC. See the attached New Hope workshop flyer for complete details about this informational class.
SAT/ACT Diagnostic:
Junior and Senior parents: The attached Diagnostic flyer gives an overview of the SAT/ACT Diagnostic. Contact Mrs. Ward if you have any questions.
Moms in Prayer:
Moms in Prayer meets every Tuesday at 8-9am. Come and join others in praying for our school, staff, families, and students.
Volleyball Fundraiser:
The volleyball teams are selling Dutch Bros cards as a fundraiser. If you missed the first round, it’s not too late…orders and payments can still be placed in the main office. Either a $10 or $20 card can be purchased, and the teams get 20%! Thank you for supporting our volleyball program!
Harvest Festival:
Shopwithscrip.com:
If you haven’t enrolled in the scrip program through www.shopwithscrip.com yet, check it out. It is not a fundraiser in the typical sense – It’s a Rebate Earning Program! It allows you to do exactly what you’re already doing for your home and your family with no additional cost to you, but New Hope benefits! It’s easy to sign up! The school’s enrollment code is 6BBA2A1232844.
Academic Challenge Team:
Emergency Forms:
If you have not returned the emergency form for your student(s), the office needs it ASAP. Students will not be able to participate in field trips if we don’t have a form. Emergency Form
Proof of Insurance:
If you carpool any students for a school function (sporting event, field trip, etc.), a copy of your up-to-date proof of insurance must be in the school office before you can drive them. If there’s even a possibility that you might drive at some time this year, make sure it’s in the office as soon as possible. (Keep in mind that they are usually only good for six months, and please get us an updated copy when you receive it.)
Pick Up/Drop Off Area:
Please observe that the student pick up/drop off area is the lower parking lot on Hidden Valley Rd. The upper parking lot by the elementary playground is reserved for staff parking, and the upper parking lot by the observatory is reserved for handicapped and staff parking.
Lunch Announcement:
Please provide either a lunch or money to purchase lunch for your student(s). The lunch menu can be viewed at September Lunch Calendar. Money can be placed on a lunch account through the school office. The office does not have money to loan students who forget or come unprepared. Thank you!
Learning Center:
The Learning Center is available throughout the school day and after school on Monday through Thursday from 3:15-4:30. We are available to help students improve their study and/or organizational skills, understand current course material, edit papers and projects, complete coursework, or to recover credit for past grades. Call 541-476-4588, ext 21, or email pattih@newhopechristian.net if you have any questions.
New Hope After School Program:
An after school care program is now available for students whose parents work late and are unable to pick them up until later. It meets right after school in room 14 and is open until 6pm. It’s open to all New Hope students in JrK-12th grade.
While your children are in the program, they will have time to do their homework, free time to read books, play games, and also play on the playground. The older students can do their homework and play board games. They can also play sport games when Mr. Hillier is here. On Fridays, we’ll have a special movie time.
Students need to bring a snack. It is also suggested that they have a water bottle with them.
Knowing that there are differences in your schedules, we have developed the following prices to meet the various needs…$3/hour, $6/day, $24/week, $80/month. There are discounts available for 2 or more children from the same family (ex: 2 children would be $4.50/hour, $9/day, $36/week, and $140/month).
Emily Dourte, with the help of Tim Hillier, will be supervising this program. Parents can call the office or email Emily at emilyd@newhopechristian.net.
Emily and Tim are doing this because they understand that work days do not end at 3:15 like school does. They want to be available for children to stay, do their homework, and have fun after school!
Box Tops and Campbell Labels:
The contest for this fall is starting now! Collect your labels and box tops and turn them in by October 26th to the school office. Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 students who collect the most labels and box tops combined. The classroom that collects the most will receive a party. Thank you for supporting this program! Last year, we were able to purchase playground equipment. Let’s see if we can collect even more this year! To find a list of eligible products, visit www.boxtops4education.com and www.labelsforeducation.com.
