NEW HOPE CHRISTIAN SCHOOL PREPARES AND PLANS FOR COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECTS
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Date: November 1, 2011 Contact: Patti Hillier Phone: (541) 476-4588 Address: 5961 New Hope Road, Grants Pass, OR 97527 E-mail: pattih@newhopechristian.netNew Hope Christian School secondary students are preparing for their Fall Community Service Day. Each high school class selected the service project they want to accomplish. On November 9, 2011 teams will tackle various Community Service projects including: cleaning the Veteran’s Memorial in Merlin and surrounding areas at Merlin Community Park, a Clean Forest Project at Spencer Creek in Murphy, serving at the Gospel Rescue Mission and cleaning downtown on 6th and 7th Streets.
The 7th and 8th grade classes have the extra incentive of doing their projects “Amazing Race” style. According to the New Hope Christian School Student Government class, “Students are divided into teams and receive colored bandanas. They solve clues to find their next ‘chore’. They complete the chore and be judged on how well it is completed before moving on. They complete chores around the grounds in classrooms and are judged on how well it is completed before moving on. Awards are given for the team that finishes first, best teamwork, etc.” This is the third year of the Amazing Race event and the fourth year of the Community Service event for New Hope Christian School students.
According to Mrs. Patti Hillier, Student Government advisor, “We’re continuing our annual Community Service Day to show the community that New Hope cares about and appreciates them. It teaches our students how to be good servants and builds class unity as they learn to work together as a team.” Hillier went on to say, “Honestly, some kids are just glad to get out of the classroom for the day while others are excited to be helping others and truly enjoy this time of service. When the students return after serving, there is always a feeling of joy and accomplishment.”
When asked about the event, one student commented, “As our school motto of “WE>ME” says, our community is greater than the school. We are glad to be able to live out our school motto in this way.”
Founded in 1961, New Hope Christian was the product of a joint effort among local churches and World Missions to Children. The school has been celebrating its 50 years of service to the community all year. Classes for Junior Kindergarten (age 4) through grade 12 are offered. The school also participates in an active sports program. The mission of New Hope Christian School is “Equipping young people for a life that pleases Jesus.”
The theme at New Hope this year is “What’s NEW at New Hope”. The school now offers a modified block schedule and several new electives that will cater to students and home schoolers. New Hope Christian School has a tutoring/learning center to assist students on every level. The school also offers an active sports program.
