Meet The New Hope Christian School’s Board of Directors
New Hope’s School Board is the governing body of our school. Currently we have seven members. We meet each month to review and discuss the administrator’s report, financial statements and other matters pertinent to the operation of the school. All decisions are made in light of what the Scriptures say and in line with our school’s mission statement and core values.
The board is currently working to implement John Carver’s Policy Governance Model in order to more effectively govern the school and to continue meeting our accreditation standards. A major goal of the board is to better communicate with our New Hope families. One way we hope to accomplish this is by posting a board update on the school website after each monthly meeting. We may also be reached by e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org . Please feel free to submit any questions, comments, or encouragement.

I am excited about serving at New Hope. Christ is the central focus at New Hope and that is a great blessing, because there is no part of our lives that Christ does not want to be a part of and Lord over.

Why I love NHCS: New Hope is a Bible-based, Christ-centered environment that provides many, varied opportunities to build into the lives of children and young people with a view to equipping them to go out into the world and live their lives in a way that is worthy of the Lord Jesus, fully pleasing to Him.
Joys: God’s good gifts of sports of all kinds, books to read, conversations to engage in, nature to see and wonder at, relationships to participate in.
I received my Bachelor of Arts degree from California State University, Fullerton in ’93 and then went on to receive my teaching credential at Concordia University, Irvine in ’94.
I have taught elementary school in Southern California (’94-’96), as well as in the Grants Pass School District in a shared contract and substitute teaching (’98-’02). I worked part-time in order to be home with my young children. After Joe was born, I stopped working to be home full-time and to volunteer at school.
I’ve been married to Ray since ’94 and we’ve been blessed with three children-Sierra, Mikaeli, and Joseph. All three have attended New Hope from 2005 to the present.
My favorite verses are Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” and Proverbs 3:5&6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths.”
I enjoy spending time with family and friends, wakeboarding, hiking, riding quads, running, watching movies, reading books, quiet time with the Lord, cooking as well as eating, and staying involved with my kids.
Vickie Stephens is the Medical Administrator of a local Medical clinic and Imaging office and does business consulting for various companies. She has extensive training and experience in Human Resources, Auditing and Accounting and Business Development. The Stephens have been a part of business community in Grants Pass for more than 20 years.
Vickie is married to Phil Stephens. They have 2 grown children and 3 grandchildren who attend NHCS. She has served on several Boards including faith based and community service.
Her favorite scriptures include Proverbs 31:10-31. A Godly example of the worth that Christian women can model their lives after and feels that it is important to mentor our young Christian women to recognize and strive for the value that our Father has given each of us.
Education: BS Religious Education-Multnomah Bible College ’78, MA Biblical Counseling-Grace Graduate School ’82 (nearly completed)
Occupations: NHCS ’77-83 (Jr. & Sr. High Bible, History, Music, PE, Coaching), Assistant Pastor Applegate Community Church ’83-’86, Missionary in So. Spain ’87-’02, Pastor Williams Community Church ’02-present.
New Hope Board Member: ’09-present
Family: married to Jan since ’77, 3 children (all attended New Hope, Josh graduated in ’07), 3 grandchildren.
Why I love New Hope Christian School: The Bible is the foundation and filter for all truth in academics, arts, athletics, and character. New Hope compliments the Christian home and church.
Hobbies: sports, mostly basketball-what God may have done when He “rested” on the 7th day! I also enjoy woodworking, table games with family and friends, riding my motorcycle.
Favorite Bible Verse: Matthew 6:33 “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.”
I have served on the Board since 2010. I graduated from Cascade Christian in 1987 and from Western Baptist College (currently known as Corbin University) in 1991. I am currently employed at Country Financial, where I have supervised a claims office for over 18 years. We worship at Calvary Crossroads.
My family has been involved with New Hope for the past 10 years, with each of my four children in attendance. My wife attended New Hope for several years when she was growing up. The need for a Christian education is of utmost importance to equip our children with a godly foundation on which to build the rest of their lives.
My favorite verse is Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through him who gives me strength.” This verse has always echoed in the back of my mind when things in life start to produce stress or worry. In the business world, stress comes in many shapes and sizes. However, boiled down it is doubting your ability to perform. I know that my strength is in the Lord and without Him these stresses in life would paralyze and take control. I know that with God’s strength I can utilize the gifts he has given me to accomplish the task at hand.
