WHAT’S NEW AT NEW HOPE FAMILY FUN DAY:
What a great way to celebrate all the new and exciting changes at NHCS, as well as the end to a terrific year, by having a Family Fun Day! Join us this Sunday, May 20th, 12:30-3:30, here at the school. A BBQ lunch (cheeseburger or hot dog, chips, sundae cup, and soda) will be available for $3.50, or you’re welcome to bring a picnic lunch. There will be music, games, popcorn, cotton candy, and more! Don’t miss it! This is also a great time to bring any family that may be interested in seeing what New Hope is all about.
JOG-A-THON RESULTS:
The Jog-A-Thon on April 27th was a huge success! The elementary students raised money for our roof project by running the New Hope track for 1 hour. They earned nearly $6,000.
All of the students ran their hearts out, and we are all very proud of them!
Students who did 20 laps (20 laps = 5 miles) or more were 6th graders Jake Barth (1st place in total laps with 24) and Cobey Giesler (2nd place in total laps with 22); 5th graders Teagan Danner, Jonathan Shields, Becca Loper, Jacob Dryden, and Andrew Martin; 4th grader Noah Sullivan; 3rd graders Joseph Dirling and Marquel Padilla; 2nd grader Stephanie Johnson; and 1st grader Lucy Maxwell.
The overall top earner was 3rd grader Joseph Dirling! The top earners for each grade were Jaxon Perkins (Kind), Cody McCoy (1st), Kelly Crisp (2nd), Joseph Dirling (3rd), Maria Nevills (4th), Jessica Loper (5th), and Lilly Melvin (6th).
Great job by all the students, staff, and parents who participated in this PTF-sponsored event! Thank you to all the parents and grandparents who helped organize the event, keep track of laps run, serve snacks, and encourage all to do their best.
JR. KINDERGARTEN NEWS FOR THE 2012-13 SCHOOL YEAR:
We will be separating the Jr Kindergarten from the Kindergarten class next year. The options (3-day mornings, 3-day full day, 5-day mornings, and 5-day full day) will remain the same as they are this year for those students who are 4 years old by Sept. 1. We are opening up the 3-day and 5-day mornings options to students who are 3 years old by Sept. 1. The Jr Kindergarten class will be a great program for kids to come and have fun, learn, and play together.
Emily Dourte will be coming to teach this class. She has been working with young children for seven years and has her Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education. She has about one year left for her Bachelor of Arts in Child Development and Family Studies. She and her fiancé Tim Hillier, a New Hope graduate, are arriving in Oregon mid-June and will be here at New Hope with our summer school program. She would love to hear from parents with any comments, concerns, or questions, or just to chat and get to know you all!
CONGRATULATIONS TO CHRIS MERLOS:
Chris, NH freshman, was chosen as the Daily Courier’s Athlete of the Week. We are proud of you, Chris!
LUNCH ACCOUNTS:
All lunch accounts must be kept current with available monies in order for students to continue purchasing lunches.
AFTER SCHOOL SUPERVISION:
No students or siblings may be on campus after 3:30pm unless it is for a school sponsored activity. Only students involved in a school sponsored activity, such as athletes at after school practice, are covered by our liability insurance. All non-athletes should be picked up after school or be under parent supervision if here at school. (The exception to this policy is carpoolers living out of the area or those who simply cannot make more than one trip to the school. We will let those students study in the cafeteria until the practice is over.) After an activity or practice, student(s) must wait in the cafeteria. Thank you for your cooperation.

LEARNING CENTER SUMMER SCHOOL:
Summer school will be offered through the Learning Center. We will be available Monday-Thursday from 9am-1pm starting June 18th. The purpose of summer school is to allow students to complete course work, recover credit for incompletes or an F, to raise their semester grade in math to allow them to advance (Students below a ‘C’ in a math course cannot go on to the next level), and to enter the new school year with improved skills and/or understanding of course material so they are prepared to focus on the future progress, not concerned with past shortcomings. It will be offered to students of all grades at a minimal cost. Please call or email Patti Hillier, Learning Center Director/Student Advocate, to discuss details.
