FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Date: February 19, 2012
Contact: Ernie Stone, Principal
Phone: (541) 476-4588
Address: 5961 New Hope Road, Grants Pass, OR 97527
E-mail: ernies@newhopechristian.net

If you’ve had a chance to stop by the front office in the last few weeks, you have no doubt noticed that things are just a bit different. Over the last month, one simple offer of generosity has grown into an “Extreme Make Over” – New Hope style.

New Hope front office “before”.

The office remodel started with one family’s desire to simply paint the office. Others caught wind of the project and momentum spread as more families and local businesses joined in the effort. Soon, eight New Hope families, who began volunteering their time during Christmas Break, were moving furniture, cleaning, painting, purchasing and installing new light fixtures, window coverings, chairs and office accessories. The new office desks, counters and cabinets were a combined donation of three families. All were inspired to help the front office, the first and most frequent point of contact with the school, more accurately represent the professional, friendly quality we seek to exemplify and develop in ourselves and our students.

The amazing transformation has all come from the generous giving of time, talents and resources from New Hope families and local businesses. There were no school or tuition funds used to finance the project, making the results even more incredible.

One of the families, wishing to remain anonymous, said, “We enjoy looking for ways to expand and improve the school using the gifts and abilities we’ve been blessed with, no matter how large or small it may be.” “‘Give and it will be given unto you.’ – my favorite verse,” said another participant. “There is a blessing in giving and serving, an undeniable joy. The Lord gives to us so we can give to others, not keep it all for ourselves. He honors those willing to share and to serve.”

“As we started the year, our theme was ‘What’s NEW at New Hope’. This project is just another great example of that theme being worked out practically”, said Property Manager, Tami Pritchett. “We really can’t say ‘Thank You’ enough for all that has been contributed to make this happen.”

Once the project is completed, “after” photos will be posted on the school website. However, the school staff would love for you to stop by and look at the

improvements yourself, so you can fully appreciate the hard work and efforts that went into the remodel project.

Founded in 1961, New Hope Christian School was the product of a joint effort among local churches and World Missions to Children. Last school year the school celebrated its 50th anniversary of service to the community. New Hope offers classes from Junior Kindergarten (age 4) through grade 12 as well as an active sports program.

The theme at New Hope this year is “What’s NEW at New Hope”. The school now offers a modified block schedule and several new electives that will cater to students and home schoolers. A tutoring/learning center is also offered to assist students on every level.

Principal Ernie Stone and New Hope Christian School invite calls to the school at (541) 476-4588 or a visit to the school’s website at www.newhopechristian.net.

TEACHER/STAFF APPRECIATION WEEK:

February 27th-March 2nd is Teacher Appreciation Week! We would like you to be part of “Brown Bag Your Appreciation”, a special project of appreciation for your child’s teacher. We will be sending home a brown lunch bag to be decorated by your child. Inside the bag, please put a token of your appreciation. The following are some ideas: gift cards (contact Sharon Garcia to purchase gift cards through the school’s X-change program), pencil, pen, baked goods, fruit, appreciation note from parent and/or student, Dutch bucks, etc. The elementary classes will also have two elective teachers to make one bag for as a class. Those names will be included with your brown bag. Thank you for your part in making this a special week for the teachers. We will be collecting the bags on Monday-Thursday of that week on the breezeway before school. Please feel free to be creative! – From Student Government

TUTORING/LEARNING CENTER:

The Learning Center has new after school hours. It will be open on Monday-Thursday, 3:15-4:30. End the year by reaching your true potential!

HOME GAMES THIS FRIDAY:

Game times are BJV @ 4:30 and BV @ 6:00. Come out and support our Warriors!

A NOTE FROM OUR ATHLETIC DIRECTOR:

New Hope Warrior Parents and Fans,

Thank you so much for stepping up and volunteering in our concessions and at the gate. One of the many things I love about all of you is the sweet spirit that permeates this school. Our high school basketball teams are just about finished with the season. District playoffs will be in Coquille, Oregon, on Friday and Saturday, February 17th and 18th. I have reserved rooms at the Red Lion in Coos Bay. Rates are $85 a night for 2 queen beds, and breakfast is included. If you or your family would like to reserve a room, please let me know ASAP, as we will have to give them a guaranteed deposit. Because of the two-day tournament, we will need parents to help us with transportation. If you can, please contact myself, Marsha Grush, or Jackie Joling. Thank you and God bless you for all you do.

PEANUT BUTTER DRIVE:

The JOSEPHINE COUNTY FOOD BANK is extremely low on peanut butter which is one of their most important needed staples. They feed over 13,000 people per month in Josephine County! So, along with painting barrels for them, we’d like to collect jars of peanut butter to bless those less fortunate. There will be a barrel outside of room 7 (Mrs. Ward’s room) for you to drop off a jar of peanut butter. We’ll be collecting until the end of February!
Thank you, Mrs. Ward

PRESS RELEASE: NEW HOPE CHRISTIAN SCHOOL REPORTS WEBSITE ACTIVITY RESULTS FROM NEW WEBSITE REDESIGN

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Date: January 17, 2012
Contact: Tim Pritchett
Phone: (541) 476-4588
Address: 5961 New Hope Road, Grants Pass, OR 97527
E-mail: timp (at) newhopechristian (dot) net

In preparation for the 2011-2012 school year, New Hope Christian School prepared to update the school’s website. The change was not only an esthetic change, but it was also a foundational change that would allow for more communication and faster updates to help keep New Hope families up-to-date on all things related to New Hope.

“Research suggests that four to five months is a typical amount of time for a website redesign with only a 49% success of website redesign projects finishing and launching on time.1 The challenge for the New Hope web team was we only had four to five weeks to launch the site and missing the scheduled launch date of the first week in August wasn’t an option”, according to New Hope’s Marketing Director, Tim Pritchett.

The collaborative efforts of the team not only redesigned the look and layout of the site, giving it a more modern and organized presentation, but also built the site using the popular open source Content Management System (CMS) WordPress. WordPress allows for new content posts, like the school’s weekly newsletter and special announcements. It also allows New Hope to add new pages of content to promote the student body and upcoming events, like the annual Auction Dinner scheduled for May 11, 2012.

At the end of 2011, WordPress provided an analytics report explaining the activity of the site since its August 2011 launch. Some of the report highlights and more interesting facts:

Traffic:

The new New Hope website was viewed about 30,000 times since August 2011. (If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House which seats 2,700 people, it would take about 11 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.)

The busiest day of the year was August 2nd with 683 views as the site was being tested after launch. The most popular page that day was New Hope Administrators and Teachers.

Where Did The Traffic Come From:

The most common search results came from

“new hope christian school”

“newhopechristian.net”

“new hope christian schools”

Some of the top referring sites in 2011 were:

newhopechristian.net

athletic.net

facebook.com

edline.net

Where Did The Visitors Come From?

Due to the large number of foreign exchange students who have selected New Hope, it’s not surprising that much of the site traffic came from other countries.

North America

United States: 99.4%

Canada: .5%

Mexico: .1%

Asia

South Korea: 45.5%

Vietnam: 22.3%

Romania: 11.1%

Spain: 10%

Others: 25.6%

Africa

Kenya: 91.3%

Uganda: 8.7%

Oceania

New Zealand: 75.0%

Australia: 18.8%

Others: 6.2%

South America

Peru: 66.7%

Brazil: 33.3%

Where Did They Go When They Got There?

The most viewed pages on the site were:

New Hope Administrators and Teachers

Calendar

Prospective Students

Contact Page

Harvest Festival

Getting Social

In addition to launching the updated website platform, New Hope also refocused its efforts in the area of Social Media.

Facebook (www.facebook.com/newhopechristian) is another key component of the overall communication strategy for the school. In addition to YouTube videos of New Hope sporting events and photos from activities, Facebook will also be a key reference point for questions related to weather delays or closures.

Newsletters can be viewed on Facebook, or a link to the newsletter can be received through Twitter by following New Hope @NewHopeGP. Twitter will also report on weather delays or closures.

Family and friends can subscribe to receive the newsletter and important announcements and updates by email on the sites’ Communications Update page (http://www.newhopechristian.net/newsevents/newsletter) and simply supplying the email address where they want to receive the information.

According to Pritchett, “Our first goal was to update the site so that it was easy to use with the most important information front and center. Secondly, we knew that more communication was an absolute necessity. While we continue to look for ways to improve the process and the website, we wanted to build the site so that it was the information hub between the school and the students & families.”

Tim Pritchett and the New Hope Christian School invite calls to the school at (541) 476-4588 or a visit to the school’s website at www.newhopechristian.net.
