Chris Merlos qualifies for the 2010 USATF National Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships
Saturday, November 20th 
Chris Merlos, New Hope 8th grade student, continues New Hope’s running tradition by qualifying to run in the 2010 USATF National Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships to be held December 11, 2010 at Veterans Park in Hoover, Alabama.

  • Oct. 28th – 1st in small school district championships
  • Oct. 30th – 2nd at the junior high state championships, Fernhill Park, Portland
  • Nov. 13th – 24th at the Oregon USATF Jr. Olympic 4k qualifying race
  • Nov. 20th – 15th at the OR/WA/ID Regional USAFT Junior Olympic qualifying race

This past Saturday, Chris ran ran the regional USATF qualifying 4k race in 14:26, an improvement of 47 seconds over the prior week, despite the course being very muddy. Chris competed in the 13-14 age group, and is 13 years old.

OSAA 1A/2A/3A State Championships

Saturday, November 3rd
New Hope Christian sophomore Christian Huttema placed 14th at the 1A-2A-3A OSAA state cross country championships in Eugene on Saturday, with a time of 17:18.

Christian was the first 1A division finisher, it was a great day!

  • Seven District Championships – girls in 2003; boys in 1995, 1996, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005
  • Two District 2nd Places – girls in 2002; boys in 1997
  • Best team placements in the State 1A-3A Championships have been 2nd, 5th, 5th, 5th, 5th, 7th, 10th, 10th
  • Since NHCS entry into cross country, NHC as been the #1 small school competing against mostly larger schools at the state level
