Mrs. Kim Kostrna
A native of California, Kim earned a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from San Francisco State University in 1985. After substituting for her high school choir teacher who was on maternity leave the following school year, Kim was “hooked” and went back to school to complete the coursework for an emphasis in Music Education and earn her CA teaching credential.
After teaching in the public school sector for a few years, Kim resigned her public education job to teach private music from her home while she began raising her family. Kim chose the homeschooling option for her own four children and was still teaching them at home when the family moved to Grants Pass in 2000.
God’s providential care brought the whole family to New Hope in the fall of 2003 when her children enrolled as full-time students, and she began teaching half-day second grade and half-day music with a teaching credential from ACSI. By the next school year, Kim was teaching music full-time, dividing her time between elementary classroom music, secondary choirs, and various levels of band.
Kim’s teaching horizons were expanded in the fall of 2008 when she began adding high school math to her teaching schedule. Geometry was added first; Algebra 2 followed two years later. The trend continued in 2011 when she began teaching physical science and biology. Kim has taken several courses at RCC to continue her education and better equip herself for the new challenges.
Kim’s husband, Chuck, is on the pastoral staff at River Valley Community Church, and both love the fact that their jobs are their ministry. Kim considers it a great privilege to be able to serve the community of believers in her job and to be a member of the New Hope Family!!!
